A day of reflection against anti-Semitism and hatred of Jews
Shalom Switzerland is a joint platform promoting respectful coexistence between Christians and Jews. It invites you to Bern, at Nägeligasse 9, on 9 November 2026 to send a strong public message of solidarity by reading out the declaration against anti-Semitism. A similar event will take place on 7 October each year from 2027 onwards.
Our joint website is based on the declaration drawn up by both sides and signed by their respective highest representatives: the Jewish-Roman Catholic Dialogue Commission (JRKG) of the Swiss Bishops’ Conference and the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities (SIG). Furthermore, the Evangelical Reformed Church of Switzerland (EKS) and the Evangelical Alliance have also drawn up important and binding declarations. The Vineyard/Jewish Culture Bern, as well as TOWARD JERUSALEM COUNCIL II (TJCII) and other Israel organisations (IWS) support this initiative, notably the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem (ICEJ)>/a> und the Return Organisation (RETO), which supports Jewish people from the former Soviet Union (primarily from Ukraine) in immigrating to Israel (Aliyah).
Joint Declaration
against Anti-Semitism and Hatred of the Jewish People
We affirm the enduring significance of the Jewish people in God’s history with humanity and advocate for respect, dialogue, and friendship between Jews and Christians. The God of the Bible is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jesus himself was a Jew.
We reject any form of replacement theology that assumes the Church has taken the place of Israel and that God has rejected His people. God has never revoked His covenant with the Jewish people; the Jewish people continue to hold their calling and all the promises.
We deeply regret that, throughout history, Christians have repeatedly contributed to or remained silent in the face of antisemitism and hatred of Jews. Therefore, we stand in solidarity with all people who have asked God and the Jewish people for forgiveness for this. In special remembrance of the Shoah, we are committed to ensuring that antisemitism and hatred of Jews are never repeated. Coming to terms with the past and remembrance are essential in this regard.
We commit ourselves to resolutely opposing every form of anti-Semitism and hatred of the Jewish people. Anti-Semitism is incompatible with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

- Highlighting joint activities, events and initiatives by Jews and Christians as constructive gestures against anti-Semitism and hatred of the Jewish people, such as educational programmes, biblical teaching, conferences, the creation of memorial sites, and solidarity events such as silent marches, Marches for Life for Israel, the Day of Prayer and Solidarity on Bundesplatz, etc.
- Joint events such as that on 9 November 2026, from 1.30 pm to 6.30 pm in Bern, Nägeligasse 9. This declaration will be read out there.
Behind Shalom Switzerland are people,
who believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and who, like everyone else in this country, wish to live in safety and peace.
